Bed Building Continues...

Saturday, bed-building work continued in the garden....

Here (above), planks are being joined to create frames...

(Above & Below)Then comes putting the frames in the ground; here a previously large bed is split into smaller beds.

Then, soil gets transported to each frame to be filled into the garden beds.

A great day's work!  It is said that by the look of the Forsythia & Daffodils, we may have an early Spring... so it is good that the garden modifications are getting done early.

Thanks to all who came out:  Doug H,  Nancy W, Phil R, Johnny S, Ray C, Earl H, Arnold & Sheila H, & Megan S.

    2. Oh, hey... here's an opportunity to volunteer this Saturday Feb 23rd at 1pm (unless rain). Harvest of Hope Garden is located right next to 601 Holston St, Kingsport, TN. They will be adding lime to the beds and will be leveling them. Contact Doug Hilton at howlatthemoon1775@gmail.com to get on the email list. He is in charge :)
If you come Saturday, bring shovel, gloves if you have one.
      Blessings,
      Ventana
ps. Doug emails out volunteer dates quite often, so let him know if you are interested

  3. Greetings!

I am new to the area and just happen to be bike riding randomly today and ended up passing the Community Garden to my excitement! If there is some sort of income requirement - I am pretty sure I will make "any" poor and needy list out there, but I do not wish to get on state aid.

I just got a job, but after doing a budget and including all bills - there is no money for food or savings in the even of emergencies. :-) So, I"m trying to find ways to conserve, recycle, re-use and become self sustaining!

Growing my own food would be a great way to begin! I realize plots are limited, so how does one apply for a space?

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

    Sincerely,

    deZengo M

  4. Harvest of Hope Community Garden helps individuals and families in Kingsport, Tennessee grow food for themselves and their community. So if you have a garden bed here at Harvest of Hope, you may grow food for your self; we just ask if you will donate some to help feed the homeless, hungry, and meals on wheels, donate to any of these or a food pantry.
The best way to get started is to come on Sat March 9th for our Spring Kickoff to see what it's about.
see March 9th Flyer info here: http://hohkingsport.blogspot.com/2013/02/gardening-class-march-9th.html
ps. if this link is too hard to cut & paste The flyer is posted in the Feb 23, 2013 entry of the blog.
    Blessings to you !
